Probably the last post before the new year rolls around. Kind of a whirlwind type of week. My Auntie Epay is in a better place, spent Christmas with Al and Nicole and their phat place in the city, kicked it Vegas style for a couple days, and then found myself at home in the city again. Just went to the Brew and View for the first time and saw Zoolander with Shaw, Vinnie, and Farney again. With all that's gone on, I feel renewed, like I've found something I had lost. No plans for the eve, yet.

An aunt passed away this morning and so I find myself in Toronto, ON, this evening for a couple days. Lots of family has come on for support. So this is a little curveball on the whole existing holiday plans of visiting the brother and sister-in-law for Christmas and spending a little cash in Vegas. But things still might work out. But who would have guessed being in Canada.

Been working, putting iBooks into states ready for students to work with. Or at least to put them back into a state after the students tried working on them. But I haven't been getting enough sleep, and I think I'm coming down with something, a cold probably. I also like jump roping as exercise. Privacy of my own home and all that jazz. I figure the calf workout will be good for beach tournament time. Played a lot of Ace Combat 4 for the PS2. Pretty sweet game. I seem to be on top of my video game skills right now. But it won't last as I keep playing. Also cleaned up some more around here. Had dinner from Ecce Cafe down the street on Broadway. Pretty good sushi. Good to have right around the corner.
1:30 AM Sunday, December 16, 2001
Went and saw Not Another Teen Movie tonight. Bad funny. Just non-stop parodies, spoofs. Dinner at the way too expensive ESPN Zone, and finally saw Pitch Black on DVD. Pretty good movie. Going to finally watch the Godfather tomorrow, first time ever, and hopefully finish up Fellowship of the Rings soon. Not going to see it until the new year though.
12:07 AM Wednesday, December 12, 2001
Went and saw Ocean's 11. Good film. Well done. It's good to see so many high profile actors in one film. Definitely very cool. And the bad guys get away. Yeah hollywood. Dinner at the Golden Nugget, all according to plan. Got Virtual PC 5 up and running. Works well. Full screen makes it very usable. Got all my consumer electronics up and running. Just have to clean up the rest of the stuff sitting on my dining room table.
10:38 PM Monday, December 10, 2001
I remember the two months I had off before school started. Good two months, and now I get a little taste of that again, before school starts again. I'm in the middle of rearranging my furniture at my place. For those that remember, it's the end of a quarter and the beginning of another, so it's time. I just have so much crap. Tomorrow is Ocean's 11 at City North, hopefully some food at the Golden Nugget, and finishing up rearranging. By the way, Fellowship of the Rings is turning out to be a pretty good book.

Not @Home, but still, this is nice. Step one in bringing the old Abando Homestead into the 21st century. On my way out to Woodstock today I stopped off at Woodfield, got a Torx T-6 screwdriver, an Airport Base Station and a new fangled portable power adapter. Pretty sweet, except the glowing ring around the plug looks a little freaky in a dark room. I also got some cinnabons. Ummmm, gooey goodness. I also watched Once and Again for the first time in a long time tonight, and the play in this Bedford Falls production wasn't Our Town, but one of the Shakespeare plays, maybe Twelfth Night or something. Interesting. Tomorrow brings a trip to the bank, hopefully a pickup of an iMac airport card adapter, and some good food.
8:12 AM Thursday, December 6, 2001
1/3 done with graduate school. Nice feeling. So now that I have a good 4 weeks before school starts again, I've got to find stuff to fill the time I used to spend on classes and homework. I have 8 days to finish Fellowship of the Ring. I'd like to try my hand at some Cocoa programming, and possibly get my gallery up and running here. And of course, watch some movies.
4:25 AM Tuesday, December 4, 2001
My project for computer architecture is done, and now I know way more about cell phones then I ever wanted to know. But all that's left is a couple readings, a final, and that's that for that class. Oh, that class. And then, after that, a mere one final away from being a third done with graduate school. Yippee! Anyway, saw Behind Enemy Lines last saturday, an okay movie. Oh, a big party last friday, but nothing too exciting happened. Yeah, that's about it.
3:37 AM Sunday, November 25, 2001
Hmmph. Time's passed. I've got finals and projects due in the next week or two. And then I"m done with my first quarter of school. Great. 2 more. Hopefully. Went and saw Harry Potter opening night. Good movie. I need to read them again. I also need to read Fellowship of the Ring before that comes out. But I should have time. Thanksgiving was good out in Woodstock. Keep trying to get caught up with homework. Fixed my Airport Base Station with some new capicitors and a soldering iron. Pretty cool.
9:00 AM Tuesday, November 13, 2001
Well, in the past week and a half, I've had homework and work. Did I ever mention I'm a support associate at the University of Chicago Lab Schools. I get to play with macs all day. Or at least half of the day. Finally saw the Musical Episode of Buffy, found and burned the mp3's of the songs. I've forgotten how nice storytelling through song can be. I did see The One. Harry Potter this weekend. Playing a lot of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3. Crazy game.
10:26 PM Sunday, November 4, 2001
Saw Monsters, Inc. on Friday. Pixar continues to put up some good work. Very good movie. Can't wait to get it on DVD. Some good ultimate on Saturday, probably the last of the year. And then some programming Saturday night, and finally got X10 working through my linux box (xenon). Home automation's sweet. Especially when there's a take home midterm that should be finished. No Alias tonight, I wonder why? Tuesday, I'll probably go see The One, and that's about as far as the plans go. No tourney in Austin, that one sounded fun. A side note, John, I'll call you soon. Your email address caused a bounce. So how about a review of Monsters, Inc.? Good movie. Funny. I'm not sure if I missed some of the humor in the film, I'm betting I did, I hope. But good. I happen to like Billy Crystal, good work in When Harry Met Sally and America's Sweethearts. But "Boo" really stole the show. Not that I'm around toddlers at all, but that's how I'd expect a very little kid to be like, very cute, very adorable. And to think she was computer generated. Now that I think about it, a very impressive feat. But definitely a good story. Definitely different levels to take on it, but I was thoroughly amused throughout the film.
5:29 PM Thursday, November 1, 2001
Why is it so hard to stay awake during class? I mean, memory levels are so exciting. Learning about KeyServer for work, trying to catch up on Architecture homework, and now sitting in Algorithms discussion. The weekend looks to be full of programming my own shell and a take home midterm, and maybe, just maybe, some movies and some ultimate in there as well.
4:26 PM Wednesday, October 31, 2001
So, lucky me, the reason for my late night was invalidated, as I just found out my homework, due in 6 minutes, has an extension for another 4 days or so. Go figure. Maybe reason enough to celebrate. Ace Combat 4 is in the mail, as is Shrek. I continue to eat Supreme personal pizzas for late lunches after work, and continue being unproductive having had no sleep at all. So maybe it's time to watch some movies on a friends' brand new 6.1 EX home theatre sound system. Hell yeah.
2:24 AM Wednesday, October 31, 2001
Sleep is for the weak. Midterms, homework, and catching up are much better uses of my limited time. Alias is such a good show. It reminds me of the X-Files, except it's like the Bond movies; spy stuff, sometimes it's the baddie of the week, othertimes, it's advancing the mythology of the series, the CIA, the SD-6, and that weird prophet guy's technology. Anyway, first time back to Omega's in a long time, and a good time. Almost done with Executive Orders. Monsters, Inc. and The One this weekend, sometime, hopefully, along with more homework and a takehome midterm. The fun just doesn't stop, does it?
10:58 PM Sunday, October 21, 2001
More homework, as always, and I am carless once again. Brought Puck in for some random spring recall, and lo and behold, I'm sort of missing a functional front driver side brake system. Hmmm, weird. So that's getting fixed, and I get to learn the intricacies of public transportation to University of Chicago from Addison. Should be fun. Midterms start this week. Yippee. I did get out and see Iron Monkey last night. Kickin' Ass. Crowd wasn't too into it though. Won't compare to the experience of seeing Rumble in the Bronx. Going home Tuesday on the train to pick up Puck.
11:51 AM Thursday, October 18, 2001
Wow, time management skills should grow on trees instead of sprouting forth from will and backbone. Anyway, been doing homework, and just started a part time job with the IS department of the University Lab Schools at University of Chicago. I get to fix macs all day. Pretty sweet. Watched the Phantom Menance on DVD the other day, too much good TV on Tuesdays, and a quick trip out to Woodstock tonight.
7:45 PM Friday, October 12, 2001
Let's see, how'd my week go? Dinner at Las Tablas on Tuesday, spent all day at UC on Thursday, kicked back and relaxed today. Cleaned up, finally got sendmail sending mail from my home Mac OSX boxes behind the firewall, set up a command line location manager script for the iBook, found out I can use my scanner under OSX, cleaned my desk up a little bit, and played a whole lot of Time Crisis II (The best is going 2 handed John Woo on it). Watched Die Hard II this afternoon, and get to try paintball for the first time tomorrow out in Joliet.
12:19 AM Tuesday, October 9, 2001
Ultimate season ended saturday afternoon when union crew lost to burn 11-9 on a failed layout bid d of mine straight up the field. They went on to take 4th in the tourney and had a shot at going to nationals. But instead, union crew ended up 10th, a spot down from last year, but well earned this year. So now I've got supposedly more time on my hands, at least on the weekends. And a long time between now and the start of the next season.
12:00 AM Thursday, October 4, 2001
Uggh, algorithms suck. Anyway, definitely getting back into the swing of being a student, pulling something like all nighters to finish up homework for a math class. Uggh. I'd forgotten how much that throws off the schedule for pretty much everything else. Finally got my mitts on OSX10.1, thanks Bryan. It's pretty sweet, except I'm having problems upgrading my cube, issues with my HD making weird noises during the target drive examination during the installation. Otherwise, pretty sweet, a nice unix based DVD player included.
11:26 AM Sunday, September 30, 2001
Once more, back into the fray. Had my first week of class. Mostly good, except for algorithms. Damn requirements. But nice being a student again, except for the homework. I drive down every day for class, not sure if I'm going to switch over to public transportation. Besides that, finally saw Memento on Wednesday and Zoolander on friday, both good movies, in very different ways. I still haven't gotten my hands on the Mac OSX 10.1 update, which is annoying, hopefully sometime this week. Finished up my first homework assignment of the year, and I also think I'm behind on my reading already. Last week of ultimate, last practice for me today, and regionals next weekend.
10:09 PM Sunday, September 23, 2001
Union Crew ended up where everyone else probably put us, 3rd in the IL/IN section. Surprises for the weekend were Deep Dish defeating Nemesis and Shake defeating Machine. Weird to see and hear about those upsets. Also saw Summer Catch for the second time and The Musketeer for the first time. Why can't they film a kung-fu type movie like Ang Lee? Had some more Krispy Kremes, this time from the one in Summit, IL off Harlem exit on I-55. Tomorrow is the first day of class, Unix Systems Programming. Fun, fun, fun.
8:41 AM Friday, September 21, 2001
Going out today to Naperville to line fields for sectionals this weekend. Hopefully will get a chance to see The Musketeer too. Lots of junk food purchases at the grocery store last night, chips, donuts, ice cream. Ordered some books for class. Hopefully I'll get a little reading done before Monday's first class.
11:37 PM Wednesday, September 19, 2001
A funny and good documentary about the early days of the popular web. Made me get up and stop watching TV long enough to update this. Went home Monday, hung out with the parents. Got a backpack on tuesday, EMS, very nice. Did all my enrollment stuff for school. That starts on monday. 2 Characters away from unlocking Minion on Twisted Metal Black. Watched Total Recall this morning. Oh, saw Rock Star tuesday night, very funny movie.
8:45 PM Saturday, September 15, 2001
Watched 100 Girls twice this week. Very funny movie, and true as well, sort of. Went out to the Woodfield Apple store again on friday, got the very cool Keyspan Digital Remote. Now I finally have a useful mp3 server hooked through my stereo/theatre system. Not bad. Still don't have a backpack, which is what I also went looking for at Woodfield. Maybe a nice Eagle Creek? Registration for school is early next week. School starts the following week. So much for summer.
11:21 AM Thursday, September 13, 2001
Trying to get back into the swing of things. Last weekend was Tune-Up. Union Crew did pretty much how we were supposed/expected to do. No better, no worse. Got some Krispy Kremes, since I passed by them 6 times this weekend. Didn't get greedy, and only got 1/2 dozens. Then the tragedy on Tuesday, with lots of CNN/ABC watching. I actually had to get my eyes checked out, and got some stuff to use my mp3 server through the television. Still need to get a Keyspan digital remote. Poker last night. Practice tonight.
9:53 PM Tuesday, September 11, 2001
It is a grave day. My thoughts and prayers go out to those in New York and Washington.
10:51 PM Thursday, September 6, 2001
Made some Creme, sans Brulée since I don't have a blowtorch handy. That was a couple days ago though. Burned my first audio CD, a warm up for ultimate, of pump up songs and various movie quotes. Very exciting. Now on book 6 of the Death Gate Cycle. Hopefully picking up jerseys for the team tomorrow, and seeing at least the Musketeer before the Tune Up captains' meeting.
10:42 PM Tuesday, September 4, 2001
Finally saw Pearl Harbor in the theater tonight. Good movie. I didn't have a problem sitting through it, which makes it a good 3 hour movie. Also watched Girl and Face/Off today. Quality. Made some more copies of wedding videos. Read some more, now on the 5th book of the Death Gate Cycle. Playing poker tomorrow. Practice on thursday.
8:42 PM Sunday, September 2, 2001
Lots of good ultimate practicing was done. It's so much better when there's scrimmaging to be had at the end of practice. Otherwise, helped King move on Friday, watched a couple movies with Russell, went to the Peplinski's for a BBQ after practice on Saturday, fabulous ribs and other foodstuffs, last half of Superman, church and breakfast with the parents on sunday, more practice, and my first trip to Piece. Nice place, very open and simple. Pizza was okay. Nothing that knocked me over. Tomorrow brings a Lake Forest BBQ, which should be fun. Tune Up this weekend in Naperville. But that's about it.
2:33 AM Wednesday, August 29, 2001
So today, well, yesterday I made my first visit to the Apple Store at Woodfield. Such a nice place. Got an iMic to input movie quotes recording on minidisc off a dvd player to burn new warmup cd's. But the store was nice and clean. Definitely where I'd go if I was looking for a computer. But I'm not. And I pretty much have everything I need or want, computerwise, but it's still nice to see. Picked up an application. Had some A&W. Helped Rita move. Saw Summer Catch. Had some breakfast. Recreated jersey logo's for Union Crew. Watched Memphis Belle. Not bad for a tuesday.
10:40 PM Sunday, August 26, 2001
Practice was hard today, I found myself more winded. Very out of shape. Let's hope I can change that a little bit in the 6 weeks I have before Regionals in Versailles, OH. Watched High Fidelity, a good flick. Deleted scenes were funny. Cleaned my computer desks a little. Probably read some more of the Death Gate Cycle by Weis and Hickman before an early bedtime.
12:51 AM Sunday, August 26, 2001
So another party at hammerdown, and this time I keep my clothes on, and don't do any dancing, but I try my hand at dj'ing and fail miserably. Finished off a Kevin Smith weekend by seeing Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Very funny movie. Looking forward to the DVD special edition with all the other jokes they had to cut out of it. Got rained on on the way back, which is always cool.
11:05 PM Friday, August 24, 2001
Well, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma were watched today in honor of the release of the fifth and final Jersey Based View Askew movies by Kevin Smith and co. The actual viewing of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back will probably occur next week sometime. Got to eat some good middle eastern fare brought up by King. The soundtracks and High Fidelity came from Amazon today as well. Only about 32 more cd's to rip to recomplete my cd collection on hard drives. Rump Roast tomorrow, as well as practice.
1:12 AM Thursday, August 23, 2001
I took the scenic and nostalgic route back from Woodstock, going the way to NU all those years. Nice to see all the different things that have changed, or been constructed, or torn down. The world's just a little bit less familiar each day. But played some poker with some friends, reset my MacOSX nfs mounts, watched Josie again, slept a lot. Hopefully I'll arrange for the union crew jerseys to get screened, and copy some more wedding videos for my parents. Oh, and I've got practice tomorrow.
9:48 AM Monday, August 20, 2001
Another week starts. Practice last weekend didn't go too well, considering numbers. Dinner on saturday by Sam and Rick, with some good company. More DVD watching, more video editing. I'm headed home to woodstock for a day or two tomorrow.
9:07 PM Friday, August 17, 2001
While driving around running some errands today, an F-16, part of the Thunderbirds, flew down Lake Shore full flame on. Really really loud. I did not want to ever have that sound overhead for extended periods of time, and made me glad and thankful that I live in a time and country of peace. War, with all its air support, would be hell. Anyway, lots of attractive people out and about in the Old Town, Lincoln Park, North and Sheffield area. The Best Buy around there is okay, but not as big as others I've been to. And I watched Josie and the Pussycats today. Good flick. Review on the more. Josie and the Pussycats. Good Flick. Tunes catchy enough that I placed the order for the soundtrack immediately after watching the movie, and going out for a Coke, and getting some Taco Bell. Anyway, how can you lose with the writers and directors from Can't Hardly Wait, a boy band knock off with Seth Green which isn't in the movie enough, and three hotties on screen for most of the time. Some cute in-jokes with Tara and Carson, and more little things all around that will come out with repeated viewings both with and without the commentary track. Must be the big "O". Overall a very funny movie. I feel bad about not supporting it in the theater, but hoping that it gets a nice little cult following and then someday getting to see Du Jour get back together for another movie, possibly their own. That would be jerkin'.
2:11 AM Friday, August 17, 2001
So I'm going to University of Chicago for Grad School. Should be sweet. So that means more time off before school starts, but that should mean more time to maybe do a couple projects to get back into the swing of things. More movies both watched and to be watched, and errands to run tomorrow; getting jerseys screened, working on some wedding video stuff, miscellaneous computer stuff. Then more ultimate this weekend.
9:52 PM Sunday, August 12, 2001
A nice weekend up in Delafield, WI, for Cooler. Big this year, biggest ever supposedly. Didn't get enough sleep either night though. Union Crew did okay, 2-3, holding seed, which I guess is good. No major screw ups or bend overs. Beat the teams we're supposed to beat, lost to the teams that we're supposed to lose to. Saw American Pie 2 Saturday night, very funny. I'd say as funny as the first one. Amusing when seen with Union Crew. Hit the A & W both coming and going, highway K. Nothing like a tall frosty glass of root beer after ultimate. But tired, which makes me happy. Spending the next couple of days out in Woodstock.
8:56 PM Thursday, August 9, 2001
So I'm going to school this fall, looking to get a Masters in Computer Science. I just found out I got accepted to DePaul and University of Chicago, and now I have to decide which program I'll end up going to. Ahh, man is only truly alive at the point of decision. Or something like that. So now I have more time to watch more of my DVD collection, and no real worries until school starts. Yippee. Cooler this weekend, the pre-regionals regionals of midwest ultimate. Hopefully Union Crew will play well. At least represent.
11:26 PM Tuesday, August 7, 2001
Ahh, no work. Just handed in my application to University of Chicago today. I'm pretty much free as a bird. Watching a lot of movies, installing, reinstalling OSX, setting up computers.
11:12 PM Saturday, August 4, 2001
Went home thursday night, did some laundry, picked up some laundry, went to AMC Cantera in Warrenville for Planet of the Apes, Rush Hour 2, Made, and America's Sweethearts on Friday, and the summer league tourney on Saturday. Busy. But fun. So movies: Planet of the Apes was an okay summer movie. Alright. Rush Hour 2 was funny. Jeremy Piven? Genius. Made was also pretty good. Don't like the handheld shots though, make me ill. Or that might have been the sourpatch kids and icee. America's Sweethearts was by far my most liked movie of the day. Just funny. Very very funny, even if the rest of the audience doesn't find it funny.

As for summer league, the season's over, and I have mondays and wednesdays back. My legs will be much happier for it. 6+ ended up somewhere in the bottom 4 of the 2 tier of summer league teams, so 13-16th. But it was a good time, all season long.
10:57 PM Wednesday, August 1, 2001
Well, after winning 4 games in a row that counted, we lost today in a game that didn't. But 6+ is looking good for the summer league tourney this weekend in Naperville. I tried out the track workout. Tired. I watched Die Hard with a Vengeance, reinstalled OSX, started ripping all my cd's again, moved the printer. Overall a fairly productive day.
2:26 PM Tuesday, July 31, 2001
6+ won our last summer league season game last night, playing with only 8 players, with our women once again playing savage. Not bad. Way to end the season on a winning streak. All that's left is some game on Wednesday up at foster, and the tournament this saturday out in Naperville. Got some Krispy Kremes last night, brought them in today, my last day of work. Tonight going to see Legally Blonde and dinner at Iberico.
9:25 AM Monday, July 30, 2001
The Tea & Strumpets 2001 tour took a stop in Chicago for the Sandblast tournament this past weekend. We did alright, coming up 3 or 4 seeds up to 7 or 8th place, beating Sarlacc in our last game of the day on sunday. Once again we looked sweet in our rain and lemon peel jerseys. Beach ultimate if fun, but very tiring, as I am very sore today. Last week of Summer league, last days of work, end of July.
4:31 PM Friday, July 27, 2001
Dinner at Duke of Perth, DVDs and PS2 afterwards from me and my friends. Simple Pleasures. This weekend though, Sandblast, Beach Tourney, Montrose Beach. I'm playing with a Tea & Strumpets Reunion Squad. Definitely going to be a good time.
11:22 AM Thursday, July 26, 2001
Whoa. Another win by 6+ last night. Too much zone. Not enough Raz. Dinner at the Pub. Good burger. New Cake, which I'm listening to now, Nelly and Nelly Furtado, were waiting for me when I got home. Ripped them, brought them with me in the car. It's been a while since I've gotten new music. Nelly Furtado is pretty good. Bumpin', as some friends would say. More practice this afternoon, and the Sandblast this weekend.
12:50 AM Wednesday, July 25, 2001
Saw that tonight, after practice. Animation was absolutely wonderful. The voice work was well done. Storyline was okay, a little cliched, a little too hokey, too kid bedtime story type. But the visuals, oh man, the visuals. Very very good looking everything. My only complaint? Voice being out of something with the visuals. It didn't sound like it looked. Or it didn't look like it sounded. To much like a dubbed movie. But still, some amazing things to see, all done by a computer.
10:46 PM Monday, July 23, 2001
Team 24 squeaks out another win, 15-14 at the buzzer. Good thing we were light, or else there would have been no chance of seeing our teammates on the field. And after our win was a celebration at John and David's, a BBQ with brats and other good stuff, and some prep talk about future ultimate endeavors, and watermelon. Tomorrow is practice and a movie, probably Final Fantasy at City North.
10:53 PM Sunday, July 22, 2001
Back after a long weekend away in the very bad state. Anyway, Union Crew went 1-3 to a 5-8th place showing at Mason Dixon. Highlights not related to ultimate include continued Olive Garden Fun, Holidome fun, Top scorer in a downhill mountain bike video game in Raz, a luke warm hot tub, and a 3:11am fire alarm. What follows this week is ultimate, and more ultimate, with summer league, practice, summer league, practice, and beach tournament this weekend, up at montrose beach. So more details on Mason Dixon: We flew in late on Friday night, made it to the Holiday Inn with 10 minutes to spare in the luke warm hot tub in the Holidome. Saturday morning, after I didn't get enough sleep due to Bigger and Blacker being on HBO the night before, saw us take a drubbing by Madison, mainly cause we weren't playing at all. Then came a burner with Burn where a 6 point swing the wrong way in the second half gave us our second loss of the day. Our third and final game we squared up against the Prairie Squids, some team from Memphis, when we finally decided to play again late in the second half and pulled out our win for the day, and moved up a seed in our pool. That night saw dinner at Olive Garden, nap time, Top Gun on NBC, Holidome Fun with Ping Pong and Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, and a fire alarm which went off at 3:11 am. Sunday brought a single point played against some team for a play in game to figure out if we stayed in the championship or moved down to the chumpionship. Then rain and lightning struck, postponing games for a good 2 hours or more. Then after cancelling the play in games, we moved on to face Big Ass Truck in the quarters. We started off playing in some rain, and then proceeded to throw this game away as well, thus ending our day. Whitney found us some pickup players for a pickup game, which I opted out of, and instead watched Deep Dish on their way to a tournament win, BAT bring it back against Burn in one of the semis. And then I went and saw Scary Movie 2, without having seen the first one, and then got on a plane and made my way home. Quite a weekend.
2:27 PM Friday, July 20, 2001
And it's summer. Headed to Lexington, KY for Maxon Dixon, an Ultimate tourney. Should be great, 90 and sunny, probably 100% humidity, hard ground fields, brown grass, no shade. Fun times. But flight leaves tonight, cheap, and thank God we're not driving. Otherwise, it's Friday. Some PSX, some Burrito Buggy, and some random Walgreens shopping for supplies for the weekend.
11:57 PM Thursday, July 19, 2001
A good, laid back, fun practice today, although my dark team didn't do too well, losing the eventual game to 3, we did try some new things, some worked, some didn't. But I had fun. And then the dark team had some redemption by winning the games of Schtick. I think I'm finally getting the hang of it. And then I went to see JPIII. Roar. No plot. People on island, must survive. Fairly simple. My complaints? Not enough people dying. There just needs to be more carnage, more people ripped to shreds. The Spino vs. T-Rex was a pretty good battle, but then, who cares? Get a safari group out, with guns like those tested by the Mercs early in the movie, and maybe Range Rovers, or whatever company pays enough to be in the film, and have them chase down dinos. Throw in a predator on the same island. Find out what happens when Raptors meet a lion pride out on a Savanna. But I did enjoy the Aviary, which finally appeared in film form. I didn't enjoy the River scene as much, as the idea of a T-Rex looking like an alligator swimming through the water beats some wimpy sail like fin. But overall, a pretty good ride.
3:49 PM Thursday, July 19, 2001
For those that are bored and wonder what I did for my senior year, you can now go back and look at my Daily Dose postings from that time period. There aren't that many, something like 10 months, 240 posts, and most of them are short. For me, I've got practice, and a possible viewing of JPIII if I don't fall asleep at practice.
12:46 AM Thursday, July 19, 2001
6+ won our only northside game tonight. Women played savage, as usual, and very unlike monday. And after acting as 6+ chauffeur, I got caught in traffic on North LSD, and watched Above + Beyond, the Nationals videos from 2000 for Open and Women's divisions. Absolutely fabulous. The production values are very good, better than the previous year. I'm looking forward to the next year's version, and someday owning them on DVD. I can't wait to get a full Finals video on DVD with a commentary track from various players or personalities. Anyway, there is a killer greatest in the Open version, but the Women's version got me pumped up to play as well. One thing I noticed, players kept mentioning the track workouts they do as a team. Must be a nationals thing. Needs to be something unioncrew needs to do. But nice video work, catching some great hucks, puts, deep shots, good defensive layouts, reads, skies, and so on. All just gets me pumped up to play. Bring on Mason Dixon.

So while waiting for the cable guy to come and fix my connection, I watched the TechTV broadcast of Steve Jobs's Keynote from MacWorld. Nothing earth shattering, no "One more thing..." slides, no new pda/tablet/iMac form factor/iSoftware. No immediate 10.1 update. But it was cool being able to watch the keynote from my rocking chair set up in front of the TV. Oh, and Gran Tourismo 3 looks absolutely fabulous. Incredible.

While not at City North, I'll be heading to the movies anyway, this time to see Atlantis finally out at Webster. 7:05pm is the showing. So this is the first disney animated movie I've seen in the theatre since, well, since Hercules I believe, not counting Pixar movies. So it's been a while. So Atlantis doesn't have any songs or musical aspects. The animation, is, well, interesting. The characters seemed simply drawn, large lines, whereas the backgrounds and environments are richly detailed. The meeting with Whitmore and the aquarium for example: very nice work, but the character animation seemed a little out of place. But it all looked very good. Some great CGI stuff, nothing as bad as the Beauty and the Beast ballroom sequence, but still, you could tell when the Computers went to work: the big submarine's first dive, the climb to overlook the lost city. But I liked the look. And the action sequences were pretty good too. And what I keep telling people, lots of people actually died in the course of this Disney animated flick. Weird. But fairly standard story. Some humorous characters. The explosives guy had some good lines. Michael J. Fox has a very distinctive voice, as does John Mahoney. But overall, I liked it. And it had a preview for Monsters, Inc., which looks very good for thanksgiving.

Team 24 had yet another loss last night at the hands of Fritz's team. We did actually have 5 women there, so our women did not have to go savage, repeat, did not have to go savage. After that I finished up the end of Die Hard, saw the extended Cutting of Power sequence, did some more work on the applications, and went to bed.

2 days later, and I'm still reeling from Bastille Day at Hammerdown. Too much tequila, in too short of time. But a good time. The night started out simple enough, with an attempt to hold up my skills as a beer friz player, but that was broken up by the 5-0. But not before someone handed out invites to a Real World Party and Extra Casting event up the street. So a large group got together, walked the 6 or so blocks up to see a large, very numerous group of people blocking off North Ave, yelling and shouting at the Real World House. A good write up is at fengi.com. So that turned out to be a bust, so back to Hammerdown. At some point Kaz found out there's Tequila after I asked, and the shots come out to play. And after that, it's time to start dancing, since the music was pumping, and there's that nice little area in front of the stereo. Nice to get moving. Necessary to stay moving, to keep me from falling over. And then sometime later there was a "bet" made about landsharking, which I attempted, but the landshark did not fare well. Poor execution. But soon after I was ready for bed. So Bryan drove me home, and I fell asleep on my floor, in various places. Bastille Day.

After a very long hiatus, Daily Dose is back up and running. For those that weren't around back in the day, Daily Dose is a running commentary by me on my life. Intended Audience: mostly myself. This is a good way to keep track of what I do on a daily basis, and remember the little things that make life so good, that I often forget. People who end up reading it: friends. It's an easy way for people to keep track of what's going on in my life.
