Just finished the Steve Jobs biography, and realized we have Steve to thanks for killing the Bell Labs of the internet (Google). 80/20? Great tech products not necessarily alignes with advertising? Gone. Because Steve told Page to focus. Wrong. Should have let Google spread its wings, and keep experimenting, because that was their identity. They aren't Apple, and never should have tried. I wonder if there is an exodus of smarts from google. Because where can you go to expirement? Unfettered research into the unknown? That 20% did and could have continued to give birth to amazing things. Instead you have a company that's "growing up", focusing, and well, not as good in my opinion. And that's too bad.
