keys, keys in hand, twirling keys on those straps that kids these days seem to use, those straps to keeps keys close at hand, around the neck, easily accessible. keys that open doors, that open windows, that start cars. trades of entry cards for gym locker keys to store pants and coats and snow shoes. keys that fit into holes, that turn and click and tumblers that fall into place. keys to treasures buried long ago, suitcases full of money, safe deposit boxes of things better left unseen and hidden. keys that open that reveal that unlock the removal of barriers, the opening of boundaries. but then again, keys that scratch, that peel paint off car doors, clenched between fingers pierce attacker's skin. keys in socks or towels from Tuff Turf, i think that's what it was. but maybe just keys to the code, a crypto's dream, the rosetta stone, that which will make everything clear.
