actual viral infections of computer viruses. limit transmission to use of wi-fi spots, only infect a limited number of hosts when access point changes. instead of a fast spreading, far reaching virus, think slow burn. think of the groups that would be hit, travelers, people looking for free wi-fi access. businessmen, world travelers, it would be more interesting just to see how far physically it could spread vs. spreading via the network. it would be far more academic than effective, possibly. it reminds me of 12 monkeys, and tracing the locations of outbreaks to major city centers. how hard would it be to do that with computer viruses today? locating patient zeros?
