signs vs. habits, assumptions, the way things used to be, have been, how long before the routine becomes blinding, before the repetition deadens the senses, where oblivion in the everyday, everyhour, everyminute becomes the all, the encompassing, when do the powers of observation fly out the window, when you don't notice the sign, how it changed from where it was to where it is, a mere 20 feet, but enough, more than enough, to make a difference, how comfortable must it be to cause complacency, how uncomfortable must it be to cause recognition, how different must the same be to create a difference, to cause a change, to at least move the habit, move the assumption, the predetermined thought of reality, that it's always been there, and always will be there, and won't go anywhere, because how could it? it works where it is, or was, no matter that it's gone now, but i'll still deal with it like it was where it was, denial? is that what it is? a mere unacceptance of reality? but then again, it's only a stop sign in a garage |
