Spanking the Monkey. Absurd. Really absurd. Weird too. If a movie can be that, above and beyond absurd. Freaky even. Such an interesting concept, shown on the Independent Film Channel, but an old movie. One funny part, at least I thought so, was when Raymond's "friends" took him out of the house, to party. So what did they do? go to an abandoned quarry and smoke pot. Talk about a party. Woohoo. Hang out on a rock, talk about shit. Good times. Beats beating off, I guess. Interesting reaction to the event around which the movie is based. Don't know how I would act in such a situation. Well, when you break one of the fundamental rules of society, everything else seems to crumble down around the loss of the keystone. Much like American Beauty. Cornerstones, it's always just trying to find the cornerstone and ripping it out. That's when life is lived, or so these filmmakers try to tell us.
