X10. X10 is really cool. I just got my ActiveHome setup this morning, and I almost wanted to take the day off to play with it. I don't have a PC plugged into the system, but it's easy enough that you don't need one. I'm using a remote control to turn on and off the lights in my living room. Pretty damn cool. Although, I wonder about what exactly this works for. There are just a limited number of lights that plug into the wall. I'm wondering how hard it would be to replace wall switches with X10 components. I'm looking forward to getting X10 stuff for the blinds. That will be the day. But home automation, not necessarily the wave of the future, but it's just pretty damn neat. It's got a pretty good wow factor. It's amusing. Can't say how useful it's going to be, besides me having less of a walk to turn the lights on in the rooms. But once the macros get set up with the PC, which runs on Windows 95, but I'm sure there's some linux stuff out there, things will get even cooler. Macros that dim entire rooms, turn on televisions, put on music. Good stuff like that. X10. Cool.
